From the college campuses along University Drive to the busy stretch of Griffin Road, Davie moves a lot of drivers, cyclists and students. If you were hurt here, Alexandra Linder Diaz can help, with a free consultation and no fee unless we win.
The Town of Davie sits in the middle of Broward County, wedged between three major highways. Thousands of people pass through every day on their way to school, work or home. With that much movement, crashes and other injuries are a part of life here, and they can turn a normal week upside down.
If that has happened to you, you are probably dealing with pain, missed work and calls from insurance adjusters all at once. You do not have to sort it out alone. Linder Diaz Law offers a free consultation, and we work on contingency: no upfront costs, and no fee unless we win.
According to the Town of Davie’s own road planning documents, the town is bounded by I-595 to the north, Griffin Road to the south and I-75 to the west. University Drive, Davie Road and State Road 7 carry north–south regional traffic, while Griffin Road and Stirling Road are the main east–west connectors.
That concentrates a great deal of traffic on a few roads. Common trouble spots include:
Many crashes on these roads are car accidents at intersections and driveways. Because so many students walk and ride bikes near campus, we also see injuries to people who were not in a car at all.
Florida law treats a bicycle as a vehicle. Riders have the right to use the road, and drivers must give at least three feet of space when passing a cyclist. At night, a bicycle needs a white front light and a red rear reflector and light, and riders under 16 must wear a helmet.
When a driver turns across a cyclist’s path on University Drive or doesn’t look before pulling out of a parking lot, the injuries can be severe. Insurance companies sometimes try to blame the rider. Evidence like photos of the scene, damage to the bike, lighting conditions and witness names can make a real difference.
If you were hit while riding, our page on bicycle accident claims explains your options in more detail.
Crashes within the town are generally handled by the Davie Police Department. If your crash happened on I-595 or I-75, another agency, such as the Florida Highway Patrol, may have written the report. Check the agency name on the paperwork the officer gave you.
The Davie Police Records Division is located at 1230 S Nob Hill Road. The town asks people to call the records unit at (954) 693-8220 first to confirm the report is available, then pick it up in person or request it by mail.
Under Florida law, crash reports are confidential for the first 60 days and are released during that time only to people involved in the crash, their attorneys, insurers and a few others. Reports can also be purchased from the state through the Florida Crash Portal. When you hire us, we take care of this step.
Davie is in Broward County, part of Florida’s 17th Judicial Circuit. A lawsuit would be filed in Broward County, whose main courthouse is the Broward County Judicial Complex at 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale. Broward also has a South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood.
Many claims are resolved with the insurance company without a lawsuit. If a fair settlement isn’t offered, filing in Broward may be the next step. Our guide on dealing with insurance claims explains what to expect from adjusters along the way.
For example (hypothetical): a graduate student rides her bike home along University Drive after an evening class. Her bike has a front light and a rear light. A driver leaving a shopping plaza turns right without looking and knocks her to the pavement. She breaks her wrist and misses several weeks of work at her part-time job.
The driver’s insurer suggests she was hard to see. Her lawyer gathers the Davie Police report, photos of her working lights, store camera footage that may still exist and her medical records. Florida’s modified comparative negligence rule means her recovery could be reduced if she shared any fault, and barred if she were more than 50% at fault, so that evidence matters a great deal. Every case is different, and results depend on the facts.
